Are video recordings that make use of multiple camera angles allowed?

  • Yes, as long as there is no audio editing, multiple camera angles of a live performance are allowed when professionally recorded by a venue or competition.

Are cuts allowed in any of the videos?

  • Video cuts are allowed ONLY in between movements of your selected Bach suite. That said, a video with no cuts is preferred by the Jury.

  • The use of cuts between movements of any other work besides Bach AND/OR within a movement is not allowed, and will result in disqualification.

Can I use sheet music for sonatas?

Yes. If you can play by memory please do, but if you are unable then music is allowed for sonatas only.

What is a CV?

  • A one page (can be front and back) list of everything important in your musical and educational life.

  • Should contain

    • Personal information including name, email address, and date of birth or age

    • Schools and music programs attended (with dates)

    • Teachers

    • Awards and competition prizes

    • Notable performances, albums, or collaborations

    • Other notable programs and masterclasses

  • A CV is NOT a biography. We do not want long paragraphs. Short and simple bullet points are perfect.

How should the recommendation letters be sent?

  • We prefer for you to send us ONE email with your CV and two recommendation letters attached.

  • If your teacher prefers to send us the recommendation letter directly, they may do so. We ask that you please inform us who the letters will be coming from when sending your CV.

Can I submit past the application deadline?

  • No, we do not look at any submissions past the deadline, unless for very unique and proveable circumstances (such as illness).

I will be too old by the application deadline, can I still apply?

  • No, we must adhere to the age limit as the competition exists to provide assistance to young musicians to advance their career.

Is it possible to receive feedback following the Jury’s decision?

  • Yes, the jury would be happy to provide feedback or suggestions following the announcement of the winner. Please send us an email if you are interested.

Is there more than one prize?

  • No, there are no 2nd, 3rd, or special prizes. There is only one prizewinner.

Who are the Jury members?

  • The jury consists of Gwen Starker, Alexandra Preucil, Nicole Starker, Rafael Figueroa, Elaine Martone, Jee-Won Oh, and Santiago Cañón-Valencia.
